A380 II

As mentioned here are some of the specs for the A380. This is going to be very technical so please bare with me. :)
  1. The wing is made of a new material(composite) called GLARE. Let me see if I remember this from my materials' lectures. It is 30% lighter than Aluminium and is fatigue resistant. Not bad. At least I did learn something in Imperial. :P Anyway, the downside to this is that it cost more and it doesn't seem to perform well in hot temperatures especially in deserts.
  2. The flushing system. They used F1 technology. Ah ha. Cool eh. It only takes 8 seconds for the sewage to travel from the front toilet to the tail where the refuse storage is. Sounds long but traveling nearly 80m down with immense pressure losses and all it is definitely something to shout about.
  3. The engine. Made by Roll-Royce. The Trent 900. It provides less noise and less pollution but with more power. This also in general makes the flight more quiet. So yay! I can sleep more peacefully now.
  4. The vertical tail plane is as tall as a 7-storey building. And the horizontal tail is as long as a small plane. So, you can imagine the size of the plane. It's just big!
  5. Control system. Everything went digital. Looks cool and it seems very easy to fly. Well, most of the time it will be on auto-pilot. But now, the screens are all digital. So okay la. We need some EE engineers out there. :) Don't worry, they have a lot of satefy measurely if these were to fail.
  6. Landing gear. It is one of the most important part. It requires to withstand tonnes of load and especially absorbing the impact during landing. So, they have to be really really strong.
  7. Cabin bins where you put your overweight hand carry bags. I know you all definitely hit the 5kg limit. Heh. So, it seems that they have motor to open up the bins and can withstand about 70kgs. So, no worries.
  8. Seating configuration could go up to 800 seats. Now, that's carrying about 8 full double-decker buses.
  9. All the main parts of the plane; wing, fuselage(body), tail, engine and all are built in different European countries. And all are brought to Toulouse, France for assembly. Airbus said that it would produce that plane every week.
  10. Wires. About 500km in length and about 300,000 joints. The is also one of the major setback to the first delivery of the plane. Hmmmmmmm. Now, talking about that much cable. :)
  11. The seats are also designed to be more comfortable. I know the present seatings on-board are hard and stiff but it is because they are made of fireproof materials. Hehehe. More materials come to play here.
  12. Due to its size, most airports in the world have to resize their gates and runways. By an extra 30-40%. KLIA can fit 3 planes at the same time for now. The furtherest gates at the satellite building has been resized and the runways are bigger now. An additional 3 more gates will be added when the second satellite building is completed.
And here is a picture of the plane flying into KLIA. I'm sure you know what those 2 buildings are framing the plane. :P I can't wait to ride in it.

A380

Talking about super planes. Now, this IS the real deal. The A380 is the biggest commercial plane to ever fly. Singapore Airlines is supposed to be the first to fly but sadly, it has been delayed for nearly 1 1/2 years. Hmmmm. However, a part of me says 'Ah ha serves you right Airbus. That's for rejecting me within 24 hours of my application.' Hehe. Okay I'm not being a sour grape here but they mostly accept EU citizens and it is very rare for a non-Eu citizen to get a place in the European sector. Aihhhhhhhh. On the other hand, the aero side of me wants this bird to fly asap.

Anyhow, here is a glimpse of the plane. Actually, the interior was a reason for this bird to be delayed for so long. Airbus promised that each airliner could have any configuration/style. However, that seemed to prove difficult as customising over 60 requests with different specs is a nightmare. Definitely in my opinion, a recipe for disaster.

Ahem ahem First Class la. Can always dream. :)

Even a shopping boutique. Cool.

A bar too.

I could go on with some of the specs of the plane but that's going to be long. Hehehe. I will save that for the next post. :)

p/s: Kai, does this post make my blog a boy's blog now? You ah. :D

Flightplan

Movie number 2. Ahhhhhhh. A true aeronautical engineer dreams to see a full double-decked airplane flying gracefully at 37,000 feet. On the aeronautical point of view, the bird doesn't seem to follow the proper geometries. The fuselage of the plane is SOOOOOOOOO wrong. The windows were designed horribly. But it had a nice deco(a bit stiff at some seats) and the bar was cool.

Okay. Back to the movie. YEA RIGHT!!! Hahaha. This show is crazy I tell you. It had a twist but seriously, Jodie Foster did really act like a mad woman!!! Like in Panic Room.

Tristan + Isolde

More like a Romeo & Juliet movie. The ending was sad but the actress didn't die. Aiya. Just wanted to watch it for fun. Hehehehe. Quite lovey duvey but as Seba said 'It is just a movie to see half-naked bodies.'

Last Saturday in Norway

Well, I sort of started packing my stuff. It seems that I still have quite a lot of junk. I already sent 6 kgs worth of clothes back to London and another roughly 7-8 kgs of books and papers on Monday.

I had to run some errands. Getting some salmon and cheese for family and friends. And also getting my last Norwegian feel before I head back. The weather now is perfect. Not too hot and not too cold. Everyone is just out in shorts and as you all know half-naked lah. And today in town, they had a Jazz Festival. Nice.

On the way back, flowers were kinda blooming. So, under my sifu's order, I had to take some pictures. Here are some of her selections of the flowers I took. I have to say. It isn't that bad. I took it with one hand some more.

Pansies.

Tulips I think.

Daffodil. A bit old as you can see the spiderweb.

Gundam Z

Since I'm done with work, so it is time finish my series. Muahahahahaha. It's Gundam Z time. So after the first 4-5 episodes which really got me so angry because of this stupid character with so much anger, I was on the verge of deleting the series. But Arjun suggested me to continue because it would get better.

And he was right. Hehehe. The show kinda picked up though it was a bit confusing. I suppose it is since it was the continuation of Gundam 0079 which I still haven't seen. So you know what next is. :D

Zeta Gundam.

Transformable mode. So cool.

Golden Gundam. Hyaku Shiki.

Coming To An End

Today, it was quite sad actually. I had to say my byes to my colleagues; Arne, Andreas and Magnus(who I think I will see him back in Imperial). I wanted to say bye to Sven too but I couldn't find him. Anyway, they are cool Norwegians and most probably I contacted them via Facebook. See the power of facebook. :)

Also, to my Prof. It has been really fun working with the wing you designed. I wished I had more guidance and help and not to mention you abandoned me for nearly 4 weeks stranded doing the experiment. Hard working man I tell you. But since you were happy with the results of the experiment. I also happy lah. :)

But the worse part is me leaving Trondheim in this beautiful weather. Weather has been glorious. Sunny at 20 degrees. Everyone is trying to get the perfect tan by wearing shorts and some being topless too. Though, it can be quite an eye sore if you get the ermmm non-figured bodies. :P

Tomorrow, I have some errands to run I think. Most probably I will go down to town to get some fish burgers. So yummy. And some smoked salmon. The salmon here is expensive but I have to say it is very good. The fat and freshness is there although it has been frozen. Then, I might get their moose and reindeer lap cheong lah. Hehehe. Anyone interested in them? :)

Bored

Ah ha. Talking about me being a genius, this is also official that I finished my University. The ride I have been through these past 4 years in Imperial have taught me a lot I think.

I wonder whether all the lectures have attended made me wiser. Hmmmmmm. But YES I sat for all my lectures and I have attended every single lecture there was(the ks-ness in me). I'm not lying! You can ask my closest friend Changyong whether have I ever missed a lecture. :)

There were a few occasions unfortunately. The only lecture I missed was Turbo in 3rd year because I overslept. Not on purpose but a 10 min so-called nap became like 1 1/2 hours. My perfect record. Aihhhhhhhhh. Some people even felt something was different because my presence wasn't there. :D

Then this year, 1 1/2 days of lectures because I went to Canada. I couldn't help it. I had such a beautiful timetable where I had Friday and Monday off with Tuesday and Wednesday with 3 lectures all together. So, hey why not take a short break to somewhere since Christmas would be hell due to exams.

I'm just exceptionally super bored now so you will see me blogging about 3-4 times a day. Also, the most of EE freshers la konon are celebrating the end of their Materials paper. Oh please people. I have been doing that subject for 4 years so what are you celebrating about. :P

For now I'm happy. I'm already done with my report and printed and they are ready to be brought back to Imperial.

Done and Genius I Am

I'M DONE!!! Finally, after suffering the pain for my experiment physically and mentally. But, a siao cha boh was there for helping me out through times of need and definitely all the encouragements kept me going. I really can't say enough thank yous to you. :)

Drum roll please. I'm officially a GENIUS. Muahahahahahaha!(Self praise gets no praise. Yea yea! But I happy mar!) I managed to improve the performance of my wing and my Prof likes it a lot. And guess what. I gave some suggestions/improvements which could be carried out and he said he might consider all of those and will ask Imperial to send over some students to continue with my work. Take that!!! I was super happy when he said that. Who gets that remarks for projects man!

The fall back was that my presentation was a bit long and too informative. Well, I didn't really pay too much attention to it because it was only just 10% of my entire report. What was important was the results I managed to obtain and that was it. Hehehehehe. Sounds so technical.

However, there is always a dark side. You all know that my infamous IC Prof said that my report was superficial. But aiya, don't care la. Both sides will mark my paper and it seems they will take an average of them. So, I pray la this one in Norway will give me super high marks. :)

I have just printed about 300 pages but actually I think I have printed about 2 1/2 rims of paper. Don't worry they will be all recycled for those which got rejected. Hey, if printing here is free why not take advantage kan? I know you all do it if you could so don't give me that 'Cheng Chun, you eco killer!!!' look. :) I love this university. IC is so kiam siap for the amount we have been paying.

But now, it is almost time to say goodbye to Trondheim and I might be back in Norway for summer. It has certainly been one hell of an experience being here and a challenge to see me whether I'm cut out for this leaving my comfort zone.

June Post

First post of the month. People ah, I only post 54 posts last month okay! It isn't overkill yet. :)

Anyway, my presentation is in 3 hours time and I'm slightly unprepared but it is just 10% of my project which I think it is quite small for the amount of effort we put into it like adding the animations, designs of slides etc. Oh well, tembak only la. I can't really be bothered now.

More importantly, I need to finish my report and print it here since it's FREE!!! I must take the opportunity. I'm going to miss this printing stuff when I go back to London. Eh but wait! I don't need to go to College anymore(well once to hand in my report). YATTA!!!

Hehe. Wish me luck!
